UTW will “go dark” tomorrow to protest SOPA / PIPA legislation. While we respect copyright we cannot abide by draconian laws that limit or even deny legitimate free speech merely to protect the untenable market positions of companies that put profit above people.

Thanks to our friends in the USA for asking us to participate.

We’ve been up to some new and different work around here, every day carriers like purses and pouches; such as this leather iPod/iPhone pouch and foliage print Foldover Purse:

Since most of these are limited runs, and may not become standard items in our lineup, we’ve set up an Etsy Shop for them rather than list them in our main web store.
So take a visit, browse around, and check regularly for new stuff!

For almost a decade Under the Weather has been in Toronto, inspired by the function and fashion of the streets, happy to be part of the thriving urban cycling community here. However it’s been a long term goal to relocate to eastern Ontario, to be closer to family, and the time has come for the move!

It’s been a difficult decision, because we love living and working in Toronto, and it will be hard to give up many aspects of living in such a great city. Of course we’ll visit whenever we get the chance, and we’ll also be closer to both Ottawa and Montreal to get our urban fix when we need it.

One side effect of this move is that we’ll no longer be able to deliver for free in Toronto. So if you live in Toronto and have had your eye on something but been putting off buying it, now’s your chance! We’ll be delivering for free in central Toronto until Saturday, April 9th, after which our regular domestic shipping rates will apply.

So thank you, Toronto, for a great ride: keep your cargo dry and the rubber side down!

It seems we’re addicted to change here at UTW, so it’s time for another website makeover, including a switch to a new shop system. It’ll now be easier to find a specific item that you’re looking for, browse an entire category, or scan the newest stuff at a glance.
Check out the new shop here.

We’ll also be launching a new shop just for our t-shirts in a little while, which will offer a much wider range of colours and sizes in our original graphics, plus new designs coming soon!

As with anything new there may be a few hiccups, but as always feel free to contact us if you can’t find what you’re looking for or have a specific request.

We all know wool is great, right? It insulates fabulously, even when wet, doesn’t get stinky like synthetics, and in lighter weights layers like nobody’s business. Right? Right.

OK, now that that’s settled, what could possibly be better for your winter riding (skiing, snowshoeing, walking, tobogganing, or lounging around) than custom cashmere/merino long underwear?

That’s just what you can get from Sartoria, a Toronto company that regenerates merino and cashmere into luxurious made-to-order underwear, undershirts and longjohns. Not only are they warm and comfortable, but they’re machine-washable too, so maintenance is a breeze!

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be at the 401 Richmond Artisans Marketplace again this year!

We’ll be introducing some great new products, things that will make great gifts and stocking stuffers. And if we don’t have what you’re looking for, there are over 20 other local artisans with hand-made products ranging from hats to soaps to stained glass, so you’re sure to find something for someone on your list (or yourself!).

The show runs December 9-12, at 401 Richmond Street West.

See updates of artisans’ work on Twitter.
Find out more about the event on Facebook.

If you’re in Minneapolis September 18th, be sure to check out Babes in Bikeland. The all-female ride celebrates the role of the bicycle in liberating women, so take part or show your support, and enjoy the party!

September 18th will be the 15th annual Paul’s Dirty Enduro MTB ride in the Ganaraska Forest.

We recently received a framed certificate from our messenger service, it came by messenger too. The certificate informed us that by using their service we were a part of a rain forest preservation initiative that purchases and protects some land in South America from illegal logging.

To date Save the Rainforest for our Children has become a steward of 21,842 square meters of vulnerable forest and they hope that is just the beginning.

Using a bike messenger service whenever we have the opportunity is what we intended when we became their client. It is nice to learn that by just doing what we were certain to do anyway we made an unexpected contribution thanks to the service we selected. If you are in Toronto we encourage you to try their service. By finding an application in your business or home you can save yourself time and money. We are a tiny company and find them to be very useful for things that let us stay on the job and not running around town doing errands that have to be done. The Messengers International
