Very soon you’ll be able to order a custom La Poche right here!

That’s right, we’ve done a little renovating around the site!
For the last few weeks we’ve been working behind the scenes to improve the website and we’ve finally got it (nearly) finished. It’s kind of the equivalent of a new paint job and display shelving but we think it’ll make your browsing more fun. (We might have missed a few things but they should be fixed within a day or two.)
Feel free to leave us your thoughts on the update!

Present the new “Super XXXtreme Booty Call” coming up this Saturday February 28th and you are invited.
Super XXXtreme Booty Call
They say you’ll need a bag plus $5 to play and that all proceeds go to Nellie’s, a local non-profit that provides shelter to women and children in crisis.

—————>Sexy Flyer ——————————————->

According to the facebook the winner also gets a whole years worth of free booty calls from Toby! I wonder if that prize is transferable? I mean, if I won could I give out Toby booty calls to my friends or would they only be for me? I think that’s an important question that isn’t answered on the flyer or facebook. We should try to find out. Booty calls are great but being able to pick up the phone and send someone else your own booty call would be fun too!

Meet at Bomb Shelter located at 166A Spadina (at Queen)

Registration is at 2pm and the start is scheduled for 3pm

After-Party is TBA to preserve a sexy sense of mystery for it all :)

SXXXBC Facebook Event!

That means North American Cycle Courier Championships! The rest is self explanatory but this year it is in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States of America our neighbours to the south. The official dates of the event; August 1-2, 2009, expect numerous pre-events and post-events held in neighbouring cities by the communities sending racers to Boston.

Under The Weather is proud to be an official sponsor of the NACCC 2009!! Aside from helping finance the event we hope to attend ourselves, especially since it is right there in Boston. Hmmm, bike ride or train ride? Both?

The NACCC is an event brought to you by the messenger community itself, born in 1998 when the first NACCC was held in Montreal, QC, Canada. It was an immediate success within the messenger and cycling community drawing hundreds of messengers from dozens of North American cities and always a few of our friends from Europe and Asia as well. Known for being a friendly, organic event that celebrates the camaraderie, excitement and challenge of being a bike messenger in North America it also has a reputation for speed and mayhem in the main race and side events.

An NYC messenger at the NACCC when it returned to Montreal in 2004.

We will try to post updates when we get them, for the straight dope from Boston here are some links, the NACCC 2009 website just went up at http://www.naccc09boston.com/ and you can get more information now at the Boston Bicycle Messenger Association website. They have an email list there as well for regular updates on NACCC activities.

A Toronto tradition continues in 2009 this February 21st from 9pm to 11pm at Dufferin Grove Park.

Cold

Hosted by The Bike Joint this mad extravaganza of spiked tires flinging stinging ice chips began years ago when (no, no climate change isn’t real!) the lake stopped freezing over well enough to hold the “St Valentine’s Day Massacre” ice race in the harbour of Toronto Island. Since then (1999 was the last race out there) the race has been held at Dufferin Grove on the hockey rinks. Typically the event consists of elimination heats utilizing one rink, with the grand finale showcasing the best ice racers on an extended course that uses both of the large rinks at Dufferin Grove Park. After the grand finale anyone who is daring enough to do so can join in the famous “Rubber Race” which, as you may have guessed, doesn’t require any special ice tires and like the whole event is great fun for racers and spectators alike.

Hot Chocolate, coffee, cookies and other warm, good things are available in the rink clubhouse from the Zamboni Cafe. There is also a large indoor space in the clubhouse with chairs and most importantly, a lovely wood stove to warm up with if you get too chilly watching or racing, or both!

The last few years have seen racers competing in temperatures of -20 C before the wind chill and still there was a great turnout, lots of camaraderie and fun with cyclists and others of every age group. This year’s turnout will be stupendous no matter how cold it is. For many this tradition signals the beginning of the end of winter, that turning point from which we can finally imagine that Spring must be closer!

Check out who will be there by going to the Icycle 2009 Facebook Event page.

After-party at The Bike Pirates new space, 1292 Bloor West hosted by The Bike Pirates

We’ll be donating some prizes for winners along with many other local businesses and artisans, and it’s a good thing because there are always a lot of winners at the ice races :)

Feb. 2

If you’ve been popping by here regularly then you’ll have noticed that we’re developing some new goodies, such as a two-strap bag and a 13″ laptop sleeve. But if you’re on our email list then you also know we just held a contest to come up with clever names for these two items, and we’ve picked our winners!

  • Pawel in Stockholm came up with the catchy “Urbanista” for the backpack, earning himself one of the first to be made
  • Kevin in New Jersey suggested an homage to Kraftwerk with “Computer Love” for the laptop sleeve,
one of which we’ll be sending to him in thanks.

winnersAnd just to show our appreciation to everyone who participated, we did a random draw from all the other entries for more giveaways and will be sending a laptop sleeve to Andre in Singapore, and a backpack to Maggie here in Toronto!

And you know we’re still working on some other bags for our lineup, and of course we’re going to need names for them too… and we might just hold another competition! So what are you waiting for? Don’t miss any more chances for Free Stuff! Join our email list and you’ll find out about all the fun contests in the future, as well as other exciting deals or news (don’t worry, we hate spam at least as much as you do and won’t send a horde of pointless emails, just one now and then when we’ve got something good for you).
